I'm in NYC -- I got in yesterday, have unpacked, met my roomies, went out to dinner with a fellow MFA student, realized I forgot *all* of my pencils and erasers in Wisconsin, and have already had two people borrow my laptop to reach the Internet (one forgot her network cable, the other has her computer being upgraded and will have it later this week). In about 15 minutes some of my fellow students are stopping over so we can all go en masse to the orientation -- good since we'll be taking the subway, and I'm not just that familar with it yet.
After the orientation, class starts, and goes until 5. I'm trying to see if the MFA students on this floor (the 8th, for the record) want to get a dinner afterwards to get to know each other a bit. I also need to go out and do some more shopping, both for food as well as various household items. One of the things that I really need to look into is getting an iPod, in particular a 60 gig iPod. Expensive, but I have a CD player with no CDs to play, and over 30 gigs of music waiting to be unleashed from my hard drives. Furthermore, I have a number of contacts in the city that I need to try and get in touch with, so I can start building my socail network. I have to admit, though, that so far, things are better here than they were in Dayton.
Breakfast today is a Berry-flavored Propel; I'm hoping they have something at the oreintation, but I doubt it. At least I'll be able to grab something more substantal for lunch. I'm guessing that by the end of the week, I'll have a better sense of where the stores/shops are in the city, how the subway system works, and even who I can look forward to spending time off with. I did, after all, find out that two of my fellow MFA students will be in Grove St Apartments for the Fall, along with myself, so that's nice.
I'll see if I can't write a more extensive post later, but I wanted to at least let everyone know that all was well in the Big Apple. Whoo!
